Your vehicle runs a Maintenance Minder system that watches engine temperature, engine speed, load and how long the oil has actually been working, then tells you when it needs changing. That is why the interval moves: a car doing long highway runs down I-5 will go considerably further between changes than one doing short school runs in Elk Grove, and the system knows the difference.
What appears on the dash is a letter and a number. The letter is the main job, the number is whatever else is due at the same time. It is worth knowing what yours means before you book, because it changes how long the visit takes.
Replace engine oil. The basic service, and the one most visits are.
Replace engine oil and filter, inspect brakes, check parking brake adjustment and inspect the front and rear suspension.
Rotate tires and check pressures and condition.
Replace air cleaner element, check drive belt, replace the cabin air filter.
Replace transmission fluid.
Spark plugs and valve clearance, engine coolant, and rear differential fluid respectively.

Modern Acura engines are built to tight tolerances and run oil that does more than lubricate. On turbocharged engines it manages heat in the turbo bearing; on engines with variable valve timing it is the hydraulic fluid that actuates the system. Viscosity is not a preference, it is a specification, and using the wrong grade can affect both.
Two things that genuinely matter and are easy to get wrong elsewhere. First, the filter: a genuine Acura filter is built to the bypass pressure and filtration rating the engine expects, and it is a cheap component to be wrong about. Second, the drain plug washer, which is a single-use item. Reusing it is how a slow drip starts.
Getting the oil specification right also keeps your work aligned with warranty coverage, which is a real consideration on a newer vehicle and on anything covered by Knight4Life or the Lifetime Engine Warranty.
Sacramento Valley conditions push most of these vehicles toward the shorter end of the interval rather than the longer one, and the Maintenance Minder reflects it.
Summer heat is the obvious one. A hundred-degree afternoon in August means higher sustained oil temperatures, and heat is what ages oil. Stop-and-go traffic compounds it, because the engine works without the airflow that highway speed provides. Short trips do something different but no better: an engine that never fully warms does not burn off the moisture and fuel that collect in the oil.
If you tow, climb into the Sierra regularly, or sit in Highway 99 traffic every weekday, expect the system to call for service sooner than a friend with the same car and an easier commute. That is the system working correctly rather than a fault.
An oil service is the visit where a technician has the car on a lift with time to look at it, so it is the natural moment to catch the small things before they become appointments of their own.
Tire condition and pressures, brake pad material, fluid levels, belts and hoses, wiper condition, lights, and anything visibly leaking or worn get checked as part of the visit. If something needs attention you get told what and how urgently, rather than a list of everything that could theoretically be done.
Two of those in particular tend to come up here. When the Maintenance Minder says so. Acura vehicles calculate the interval from actual operating conditions rather than a fixed mileage, so it varies with how and where you drive. Valley heat, stop-and-go traffic and short trips all shorten it; steady highway miles lengthen it.
