Davis has an unusual concentration of people who have just finished a degree and are about to need a car for the first time in years. If that is you, there are two Acura programs worth knowing about before you start shopping, because both are applied at the point of purchase and neither can be claimed retrospectively.

The short version

The Acura College Graduate Program is a manufacturer program for recent graduates, and in most periods for students close to finishing as well. It exists because new graduates tend to have thin credit files and little purchase history, which makes conventional approval harder than their actual earning prospects justify. Terms, eligibility windows and required documentation are set by Acura and change from one program period to the next.

Why this matters more in Davis than most places

A university town produces a particular pattern. People finish a degree, take a job that may be in Sacramento, the Bay Area or somewhere else entirely, and suddenly need a reliable car on a timeline measured in weeks. They also tend to have almost no credit history, because four years of student life does not generate much.

That combination is what the program is built for. It is not a discount aimed at people who already qualify comfortably; it is a route to approval for people whose finances are better than their file suggests.

What to sort out before you come in

If the job is in Sacramento or the Bay Area and the commute is the point, the Integra is the cheapest way into the brand and the only Acura still offered with a manual gearbox. If you are moving somewhere with weather, or the plan involves regular trips into the Sierra, the RDX with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is the more sensible answer.

There is also a strong argument for not buying new at all. The military program, separately
